The
technology used is relatively new and is developed by Rocket Network
- a pioneer company involved in the music and Internet for a number
of years. One of the early experiments was featured in BBC's Tomorrow's
World programme in 2000. It involves composing a new soundtrack
in real time from musicians across the Atlantic.
Rocket
Network is the only global production network for audio professionals,
providing simultaneous multi-user access to audio session files
that are dynamically updated and stored on a secure central server
network. This allows musicians to work together on the same project
at the same time from anywhere in the world.
The
technology is now embedded in some leading music software as extensions
or add ons to the main music programmes such as Steinberg Cubase,
Emagic Logic Audio, Pro Tools. Rocket technology can be used during
the creation and production of many musical applications and can
be used for collaborations between artists around the world.
Imagine
it is possible in the creation of your music project, you could
have the contributions of an Afican drummer, a Spanish guitarist,
a saxaphone soloist from New York, and maybe an Irish violinist.
To
setup the facility is simple, all you need to set up is a relatively
new computer PC or Mac, with an internet connection and a soundcard.
You will also need Cubase or Logic Audio installed or in a Pro
Tools system. The Rocketpower control is already embedded to the
software mentioned, all you need to do is hit connect then you
can share your music with other users or listen to other's music
in real-time.
